Definiciones de los términos utilizados en la documentación y la interfaz de usuario.
- UTXO
- Unspent Transaction Output. The elementary unit of a Bitcoin balance: an amount of sats locked by a script. Every transaction consumes one or more UTXOs and creates new ones.
- PSBT
- Partially Signed Bitcoin Transaction (BIP 174). Standard format to build a transaction, sign it in multiple steps, or hand it off to a wallet for signing.
- P2TR
- Pay-to-Taproot. Modern address type (bc1p…), used by default for ordinals. Dust limit: 330 sats.
- P2WPKH
- Pay-to-Witness-Public-Key-Hash. Native SegWit address (bc1q…), used for payments. Dust limit: 546 sats.
- Sat (satoshi)
- Smallest Bitcoin unit: 1 BTC = 100,000,000 sats. Every sat carries a unique serial number (ordinal).
- Sat-range
- Contiguous interval of sats within a UTXO, identified by [start, end). Ordiscan provides the full sat-range for every UTXO.
- FIFO (First-In First-Out)
- Ordinals convention: sats leave a transaction in the order they entered it. Bitcoin Tools enforces FIFO 1:1 to preserve sat identity.
- Rare sat
- A sat with a notable ordinal property: rarity (uncommon, rare, epic, legendary, mythic) or badge (palindrome, alpha, omega, block9, vintage, etc.).
- Satribute
- Modern synonym for “badge”: an additional property a sat may carry (e.g. uniform, prime, sequence palindrome…).
- Inscription
- Arbitrary data (image, text, JSON…) inscribed on a sat via the Ordinals protocol. Identified by its inscription ID (txid + index).
- Padding
- “Free” sats surrounding an inscription inside its UTXO. Can be recovered via Padding Recovery without touching the inscription.
- Dust limit
- Minimum amount an output must hold to be relayed. 330 sats on P2TR, 546 sats on P2WPKH. Below that, nodes reject the transaction.
- Rune
- Native Bitcoin fungible token standard (Casey Rodarmor, 2024). Transfers use a special OP_RETURN called a runestone.
- Runestone
- OP_RETURN encoding a rune operation (mint, transfer, etch). Contains edicts describing which amounts go to which outputs.
- Edict
- Single instruction inside a runestone: “transfer X units of rune R to output N”.
- Cenotaph
- Invalid or non-parseable runestone. Any rune involved is permanently burned. Bitcoin Tools refuses to sign a PSBT producing a cenotaph.
- BRC-20
- Fungible token standard based on JSON inscriptions. Three operations: deploy, mint, transfer.
- BRC-20 locked / transferable
- UTXO holding a BRC-20 “transfer” inscription ready to be sent. Bitcoin Tools locks these UTXOs: moving them consumes the transfer.
- Alkane
- Family of executable Bitcoin assets (meta-layer). Bitcoin Tools excludes UTXOs positively detected as Alkanes-bearing from the tools that can't handle them safely. Detection relies on an external provider; when it is unavailable, the interface reports the check as incomplete instead of claiming the UTXO is Alkanes-free.
- RBF (Replace-By-Fee)
- Replacing an unconfirmed transaction with another one paying a higher fee (BIP 125 opt-in signalling, or full-RBF on nodes that enable it). Relay and mining of the replacement depend on each node's and miner's policy — acceptance is never guaranteed.
- Speed Up
- Bitcoin Tools feature based on RBF: rebroadcasts your pending tx with a higher fee rate, funded by shrinking the CHANGE output or, if needed, by adding verified-clean Payment UTXOs as extra inputs. Recipient outputs are unchanged.
- Cancel (RBF)
- Bitcoin Tools feature that replaces a pending tx with a 1-in / 1-out RBF tx returning the funds to your own payment address — effectively aborts the transfer as long as the original has not been mined. Ordinals inputs of the original are never touched.
- ORD badge
- Orange badge shown on a transaction input or output whose address/script is Taproot (P2TR), the family used for Ordinals. It is an address-family indicator, not proof that the address belongs to you.
- PAY badge
- Blue badge shown on a transaction input or output whose address/script belongs to the validated payment family (Native SegWit, or a supported validated Nested SegWit form). It is an address-family indicator, not proof of ownership.
- CHANGE badge
- Blue badge shown on the output that returns the remainder of a transaction to your Payment wallet. It replaces the PAY badge on that output; inputs are never labelled CHANGE. Addresses that cannot be classified are shown with a neutral badge.
- Ancestor cap
- Bitcoin limit of 25 unconfirmed ancestor transactions per tx. Forces the Splitter and the Runes Minter to batch.
- Batch signing
- Ability for a wallet to sign multiple PSBTs in a single user action (signPsbts method). Today: Xverse only.
- Commit / Reveal
- Two-transaction scheme for inscriptions: commit prepares a dedicated taproot UTXO, reveal inscribes the content into it.
- Delegate inscription
- An inscription whose content points to another inscription. Lets you re-reference content without re-posting it.
- Mintability
- For a rune: current mint conditions (window open, remaining supply, amount per mint). Checked by the Runes Minter before each batch.
- Verified-common
- UTXO manually flagged by the user as “confirmed empty of rare content”. Lets it be used as payment despite an unknown status.
